Stream & Wetland Buffer Workshop

Thursday, November 21, 5:00-8:00pm

At The History Center in Tompkins County, 110 N. Tioga Street, Ithaca, NY

This training will provide municipal officials, land use planners, conservationists, non-profit board members, and other interested members of the public with a tool kit to protect stream and wetland buffers to improve water quality, and reduce flooding and property loss in a changing climate.

Program presentations include:

·         5:00-5:30pm, “Riparian Buffers 101: Why are buffers important and how are they vulnerable?” Lydia Brinkley, Upper Susquehanna Coalition 

·         5:30-6:00pm, “Ordinances/Site Review: Tips and tools to protect buffers at the municipal level”. Scott Doyle, Tompkins County Planning and Sustainability

·         6:00-6:15pm, Dinner 

·         6:15-6:35pm, “Watershed Planning: Ways to identify and prioritize stream buffers in need of improvement.” Kristen Hychka, NYS Water Resources Institute

·         6:35-7:00pm,” Project Implementation: How to implement a stream/buffer restoration projects and funding options available.” Lydia Brinkley, Upper Susquehanna Coalition

·         7:00-7:30pm, “Case Studies: Lessons learned from stream restoration projects in Tompkins County.” Angel Hinickle, Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District; Scott Doyle, and Lydia Brinkley, Upper Susquehanna Coalition

·         7:30-8:00pm, Question & Answer Period

Cost: $10/person, payable by credit card in advance, or by cash/check at the door; a light dinner will be provided.

Please indicate your role (if any) with an organization such as a planning board, citizen group, agency, etc. This training may count for training credits, such as for planning board members.  Please check with your local municipality.  Certificates of attendance will be provided to all attendees.
