Seneca Lake has the most water of the 11 Finger Lakes and is the deepest and the second longest.
More than half of all the surface water in the entire Finger Lakes Region is contained within the Seneca Lake watershed.
The land around the lake supports significant agriculture and viticulture, supporting a vibrant tourism industry and strong agricultural community. Boating, fishing and swimming provide summer activities for many residents and summer visitors alike.
The Finger Lakes Region
Seneca Lake is one of eleven Finger Lakes located in upstate New York. Located in between Rochester to the west and Syracuse to the east – Seneca Lake is only an hour’s drive from these larger metropolitan areas.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the Finger Lakes are a must-visit destination. Whether you’re into hiking, biking, boating, fishing, or camping, there’s something for everyone. The region is also home to some of the most scenic state parks in New York, featuring stunning waterfalls and breathtaking gorges – with one of the best known – Watkins Glen State Park – located right at the south end of Seneca Lake.
