PFAS in Fish

Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association has partnered with researches from FLI, HWS, and SUNY-ESF for fisheries research. For three years from 2022-2024 Pure Waters Volunteers helped collect and dissect fish from the Annual Lake Trout Derby held each Memorial Day Weekend.

Near Shore Nutrients

Pure Waters has partnered with Lisa Cleckner at FLI to better understand the near shore
nutrients and their availability for the growth of HABs and algae such as Cladophora. This new research effort will kick off the last week of May 2025.

Stream Flow

We have partnered with SUNY ESF professor Stephen Shaw from the NYA Center for Excellence in Healthy Water Solutions to monitor the daily volume of water entering the lake from the major streams around the lake. Measurements started being taken in March of 2025 for this new project.

Lake Foam

We don’t have the details yet – but we are excited to be one of the lakes involved in the next round of foam research for Rick Smith and Stella Woodard from Global Aquatic Resources.
