Pure Brew Week Returns to Protect Seneca Lake

GENEVA, NY – A crisp Pilsner brewed with local ingredients and a clean-water mission is back on tap this summer as PURE Brew Week returns.

Crafted by the Seneca Lake Order of Brewers (SLOBs) in collaboration with the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association (Pure Waters), PURE Brew 2025 — known as “PURE Pils” — is brewed with 100% New York-grown barley, locally developed hops, and pure Seneca Lake water. It will be poured at breweries, tap houses, and restaurants around the lake during PURE Brew Week, July 25–August 3.

“Protecting Seneca Lake is important to all of us — it’s our home and the single largest ingredient in the beer we brew,” said Derek Edinger, co-founder of Brewery Ardennes and founder of SLOBs. “This year’s PURE Brew highlights just how much local collaboration and care go into every pint.”

The 2025 batch was brewed at Grist Iron Brewing Company on May 14, where brewers from across the region gathered. This year’s PURE Brew uses malted barley from New York Craft Malt in Batavia, raw barley from Seneca Grain & Bean in Penn Yan, and hops developed by Cornell AgriTech — including the standout ‘Reality G’ hop, prized for its local roots and resilience.

PURE Brew’s impact goes beyond the pint glass. Proceeds help fund Pure Waters’s mission to protect and preserve the lake’s environmental health through water quality monitoring, community education, and conservation projects.
