Understanding Harmful Algal Blooms with Mark Petzold

Mark brings more than three decades of engineering experience, having spent 33 years at Lockheed Martin working on complex systems integration projects. Since joining the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Board in 2022, he has led the organization’s expanding water quality initiatives, including PFAS and neonicotinoid pesticide testing, DEC WAVES stream monitoring, and a partnership with SUNY ESF to measure phosphorus loads from streams throughout the Seneca Lake watershed.

On Wednesday, June 24, from 7:00pm – 8:00 pm join Mark as he explores the connection between phosphorus and harmful algal blooms (HABs), the work being done to reduce phosphorus entering Seneca Lake, and why these efforts are critical to protecting water quality. Hydrogeology and Lake Level with Bill Kappel

Bill Kappel spent more than 30 years as a hydrogeologist with the US Geological Survey before retiring in 2014. He provides a general overview of how Seneca Lake fits into the regional flow system and address questions on the management of Finger Lake water levels and river-flow management throughout the Oswego River Basin.
